How to find a job in Australia & write an Australian Resume?

Three Detailed Steps - Tested, and Succeeded (Read them in focus)

Step 1 - Before arriving inAustralia by 4 weeks or even if you already arrived.

  1. Build your Australian resume in a well effective format (sample is attached - OALIResumeBA.docx), and take care of the following (3 pages max, quantify you achievements and experience, most focus on last role, combine roles in same company to last one – the longest you stayed the better stability you have , mention that you are PR visa, happy to reallocate, immediate availability, and don’t put any address, only file doc / docx, use www.grammarly.com always in any emails, resume, etc to autocorrect you phrases in British slang plssssssss).
  2. If you will target more than one role do the following ( retrieve a keywords list from seek job description for each role, have a copy of resume for each, scatter related keywords in the resume in a reasonable manner (see sample attached - keywords list.xlsx), test the intensity of keyword in the resume by www.wordcounter.net)
  3. Try to stick to the attached sample in section’s order, format, font, etc.
  4. While collecting the keywords from seek.com.au create a list of all recruiters details, company details that is in your field of interest , this is very important step to save time and you will use it later (get companies details by www.whitepages.com.au and recruiters details from LinkedIN).
  5. Create a big list of all companies, recruiters work in your field of interest (see attached sample - Australian Companies of Interest .xls).
  6. Create a list of all friends, indirect friends contacts all over Australia not only your targeting city.
  7. Until now please don’t send your resume to recruiter or company except if you have friends, consultant to verify and validate the efficiency of your resume – you can have a paid service by Terry - www.obpaustralia.com.au.
  8. Build your LinkedIn profile CAREFULLY, as it’s the first introductory way to anyone overseas. Most important thing in LinkedIn (Photo, Bio, Summary - keywords, Skills Endorsement, Recommendations, Groups, Connections) .
  9. Now in your Linked in profile, first of all disable the option that notifies your networks of any updates until you completely build your profile.
  10. Bio is used in search engine, so use a role, keywords, certificate names, mention “Open for new opportunities” or whatever.
  11. Mention that location as Australia (not specific city) to target all job locations.  Put your email, Ausse mobile number, website in contact information.
  12. Please try to rename your linked URL profile to something related to your name to be easy searched such as https://www.linkedin.com/in/omarali123. Attach your resume file in the summary section.
  13. Put your QUANTIFIED achievements and responsibilities – contained keywords in the Experience section. Attach all related certificates, recommendations, team photos, courses, honors, awards, etc  for each job. DON’T mention the company location if it was not in Australia –if possible.
  14. Now, get as much recommendation as you can from high level managers, seniors, customers, colleagues. By sending them a email mentioning the following: "I need you to add a recommendation to my LinkedIn profile, as am leaving for good. You can use below template to recommend me. My profile's url is https://www.linkedin.com/in/omarali123. “Omar is highly knowledgeable in his field of ERP and Business application management, at the same time, is capable of quickly understanding new systems implementation and processes. He is a delight to work with and has a professional consistent way of communicating business needs. As a vendor I highly recommend him to any professional organization”.
  15. Work with your peers on linkedIn to endorse you for the required skills as it matters a lot. Offer endorsing them and they definitely will revert the same back to you.
  16. Add any volunteering experience to your LinkedIn profile, it matters a lot here in Australia.
  17. All your social media profiles must share same photo, name, bio, contact details, its more professionally, to be reached easily by anyone, and easy to maintain in future.

Last advice: If you believe in Allah, Before building communication with everyone to get a job, build the most effective one with Allah, simply by Asteghfaar, Salat el 7aga and Doaa (Seham el Layl).

Step 3: Final Round, Focus, Deep breathing, you’ve landed to your new home, Welcome Australia!!

  1. After getting your REAL Australian mobile line win minimum 5GB data pack, update all resumes, logged employer, and job websites set the BIG PLAN for your adventure.
  2. Start with contacting your entire friend again NOW BY PHONE plsss, meet, ask for advice, help, and support from their experience. Plsss don’t be shy or closed minded the effective you do the fast you get. Don’t forget that in return you will help and support newcomers with all you have.
  3. Build relations her and there by attending events (Meetup Mobile APP, Internation.com), Register in all companies events (if IT go to www.itupdate.com.au, TOASTMASTER - www.acs.org.au/networking-and-events).
  4. Now, Enable “Notify my network” option in LinkedIn, update your mobile number and bio, everyone in your network by alerted about you, “Great!! this is what you wanted”
  5. Grow you relations more by adding more connections to LinkedIn and ask for advice and even to chat or meet with them, publish posts, feeds, comments on others on daily timely period to be always on their top pages.
  6. You MUST do volunteer activity if you don’t get a job fast. This will be doing three BIG things to your experience. More relations, culture orientation, tell the employer/recruiter that you are an active candidate who loves to give back. Apply for volunteering which in your field first or anything by www.govolunteer.com.au don’t forget to have 100 points of ID verification, it’s required. Work on two volunteering places and give one day a week for each better than giving a one tow day.
  7. Instead, look for casual/freelancer job which will do same as the volunteer besides paying you back some bucks/dollars to survive. Check on seek.com.au, ozlance.com.au or gumtree.com.au. Don’t work on something that will affect your main target to get a job in your field (Casual Resume Template is attached - OALI Casual Resume.doc).
  8. HEVEAYLY apply on all jobs that match you on linkedin , seek.com.au, etc. BUT focus once you applied log down the recruiter/employer contacts to call him after half an hour or maximum an an hour from your action TO SELL YOURSELF
  9. Focus on what will you say when you reach him: “Hello XXXX, My name is XXX, IT Professional, I ‘d like to have a few moments introducing myself to you. Can I? if yes, Say Thank you so much,  go for 1 min of your experience and last achievement in numbers plssss, then emphases on your compliance with his job ads and that you are PR visa, available for immediate interview, and happy to reallocate if required.
  10. If you reach his voice mail, you MUST record the same with your voice, he calls you back don’t worry.
  11. At this time he might open his email to get your resume which is sent to him an hour ago and start asking you few simple questions. Please speak slowly, clearly, smiley, actively voiced. He might ask you where are you living to say with friends in addressXXXX but as a singular, you are happy to reallocate if required. If he asked you about how long have you been in Australia, immediately mention few weeks but since you’ve arrived, you’re volunteering, studying, attending TOAST Masters, Writing Whitepapers, and preparing for you next certification to sharpen your skills for the new role, to let him feel you are active guy also if asked about local experience that you are doing volunteering and worked in multinational companies before and used standard methodologies and approaches that is similar everywhere on the earth. Plsssss Don’t ever say no and that’s all but always comments on your “NO” answer. To be always a positive person.
  12. Fantastic, if positive feedback asks him when can you follow up? And noted down to do so (see follow up template below). “Dear XXXX, Thank you for giving me the opportunity to interview/apply for the position of  "XXXX" role at XXX company. It was a pleasure to chat with you, and I appreciate your time and consideration in interviewing me for this position. 1. Prepare further for any interview by studying behavioural questions, key skills of each role, matching you achievements with them, study the salary market value using (SalaryChecker, Hays APAC Salary Guide Mobile APP) but if you have been asked how much you want say “AM Okay with the MARKET RATE” as you are new to the market.
  2. Supposed, unfortunately, you got a rejection from a company you liked, proactively grap the chance by the below rejection reply “Dear XXXX,
I would be lying if I said I’m anything but keenly disappointed that I wasn’t your choice for the position of Business Analyst. But knowing how professionally and thoroughly each candidate was interviewed and shortlisted.  I’m also honoured to have been on that short list. I appreciate that your job of selection was very, very difficult.

It was a pleasure getting to meet you and seeing how well your team works together. [Customise the following: You are a rare and skilled manager. I particularly like your style of relating to your team, and sincerely hope that sometime in the future we get an opportunity to work together. (I agree that my skills are a great fit for your team.)]

I wish you and your team great success. Thank you again for all your efforts on my behalf. I will look forward to seeing you at one of the area association meetings.
    Best regards”
