You do NOT need special papers (other than what you need to drive your car) to drive a friend's car in NSW. However, if an accident occurs, the insurance cover might be different from the cover available to the car's owner. You might need to pay a higher excess than the owner would pay. You might get no cover at all! The car's owner needs to check their insurance contract.
