If you are looking for a professional job, e.g. IT, accountant, engineer, it is quite common to take 3-6 months (sometimes much longer) to find your 1st job in Australia. 

There are many different reasons for this issue. However, following are some of the reasons, which might cause a delay in finding your 1st job. 

1. Probability theory; within this period (3-6 months), you would have had enough applications & interviews to get a job!

2. During this period you would develop "local" culture traits

If it is the 1st reason, you cannot do much about it. You just need to be patient. If you decided to leave your job when you were in your home country, it would have probably taken around 6-12 months to find a new job. So, relax and enjoy the ride...

If it is the 2nd reason, you can try making some activities to expedite the "localisation" process. Following are some suggestions. 

A. Watch local TV and/or listen to local radio channels. When you were at your home country, you understood 99% of what is said on TV. How can you expect to work with Australian if you don't understand at least 85% of what people say on Australian TV?!

B. Consider taking English pronunciation courses, e.g. https://cce.sydney.edu.au/course/OPOP

C. Get a non-professional job, i.e. security guard, waiter, cleaner, etc. This will improve your understanding of the local culture in no time!

D. If you find working in a non-professional job difficult (because of your pride), spend your time in Caffès. Sit there and observe people communicate. Observe how they talk, laugh and deal with each other. Do NOT play with your mobile phone. OBSERVE people.

By the way, most professionals in this country worked in non-professional jobs. Education is not free and parents don't help. Most doctors, engineers, etc. worked while at University in part-time jobs as waiters, cleaners, etc. This is one of the reasons why people have mutual respect for each other, regardless of their social status.

If you don't get enough phone calls from recruiters (around a call per 10 applications), you are probably either: (1) applying for the wrong jobs (jobs that don't match your experience), or (2) your Resume needs enhancement.

If you are getting only 1st phone calls from recruiters, but no subsequent calls or invitations for interviews, probably your accent needs improvements. The recruiters might find it difficult to communicate with you. Another possibility is that the recruiters found from talking to you that what you wrote in the Resume do not match what they heard from you on the phone.

If you are getting invited to interviews, but not getting offers, I would strongly suggest you read about interviews and discuss your answers with people who have local experience. Among many things, the problem could be in (1) your attitude and/or your knowledge. Most probably, it is in something you don't realise, e.g. you think that people who make mistakes should be fired, while in Australia, we think that people, who make mistakes, should be trained, among other corrective actions.

الحصول على وظيفة أمر صعب بشكل عام وفي أي بلد!

قبل هجرتنا لأستراليا كان البحث عن فرصة جديدة يستغرق شهورا! ولكننا لم نكن نلاحظ ذلك لأننا لم نكن نتألم. فالشخص عادة يبحث عن وظيفة جديدة وهو ما زال ينعم بوظيفة أخرى. وكثير منا ينعم بكونه يسكن في منزل يمتلكه وغير قلق من الالتزام بتسديد إيجار سقف ينام تحته! والكثير عنده بعد المدخرات التي تعطيه قدرا من الأمان!

يعلم الجميع أن أصعب تحدي يواجه المهاجر لبلد آخر هو الحصول على أول وظيفة في مجال تخصصه. وهذا التحدي يشبه كثيرا التحدي الذي يواجهه حديث التخرج من الجامعة!

ولهذا التحدي أسباب كثيرة، من أهمها الغموض الذي يحيط بالشخص المتخرج حديثا نظرا لعدم وجود خبرة سابقة تنبئنا عن خبراته، فيتردد المسؤولون في "تجربة" المتخرج حديثا. وهذا الغموض كذلك يجده أصحاب العمل في بلاد المهجر لجهلهم بظروف العمل والدراسة في البلاد الأخرى، أو لمعرفتهم (إن كانوا مهاجرين) بمدى الاختلاف بين أستراليا والدول الأخرى.

وهناك تحد آخر هام يواجه المهاجر، وهو غياب شبكة العلاقات. من المعروف أن شبكة العلاقات من أكثر ما يسهل البحث عن فرص عمل جديدة. وهذا وجه آخر لتشابه المتخرج حديثا بالمهاجر حديثا. ولكن الألم يكون مضاعفا عند المهاجر لأنه غالبا ما تكون التزاماته ومسؤولياته قد زادت كثيرا بالمقارنة بما كان مسؤولا عنه عند تخرجه من الجامعة.

ما أحاول الوصول له أن البحث عن عمل، مهمة صعبة ومرهقة جدا في جميع الظروف! وتزيد صعوبة في حالة الهجرة. لذلك فطول الطريق وصعوبته ليست بسبب تقصير منك أو تقصير من المجتمع! هذه هي طبيعة هذه المهمة! نحب نحن الفنيون أن نقول لمدراء المشاريع لا يمكن إنجاب طفل في شهر بتعاون 9 سيدات! بعض الأمور تحتاج لوقت بغض النظر عن المجهود المبذول وعدد المتعاونين لتحقيقه.

من الأمور التي تصيب بالإحباط عند البحث عن عمل، أننا نجد أننا نبذل مجهودا كبيرا ووقتا طويلا دون تحصيل أي ثمرة! ولكن اقترح عليك أن تقيم هذا الجهد والوقت بما يمكن أن تحصل عليه إن وفقت في الحصول على الوظيفة! عند التقديم على وظيفة، ركز تفكيرك على الوظيفة التي يمكن أن تنعم بها لسنوات! وعندها ستجد أن استثمار ساعة لكتابة خطاب أو تحديث السيرة الذاتية، يعتبر ثمنا زهيدا مقابل ما يمكنك الحصول عليه! والشهور التي ستتعب فيها للحصول على أول وظيفة بعد الهجرة، تبدو ضئيلة عند مقارنتها بسنوات الرخاء التي ستعيشها إن شاء الله بعد ذلك!

الأمر ليس بيدي، ولا بيدك! الأمر بيد الله سبحانه وتعالى الأدرى بمصلحتي ومصلحتك!
